Herta Flor

After receiving her doctorate in psychology at the University of Tübingen, Germany, Herta Flor has worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University and as visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1995, she became full professor of Clinical Psychology at the Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. From 2000 to 2025 she was full professor at the University of Heidelberg and scientific director  of the Department of Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience  at the  Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim, Germany. Currently she is senior professor at the Department of Neuropsychology and Psychological Resilience Research at Heidelberg University and the Central Institute of Mental Health. Her research focuses on the role of neuronal plasticity, learning and memory in understanding mechanisms of chronic pain and the development of innovative behavioural treatments. She has  has published more than 500 scholarly papers  and  has received numerous research grants and  awards, among them honorary doctoral degrees at the Free University Amsterdam and
Aalborg University, as well as two advanced grants of the European Research Council.
