Luis Garcia-Larrea, MD, PhD, is Research Director at the INSERM (National Agency for Medical Research, France), Head of the Inserm/University research Lab “Central Integration of Pain in Humans” NeuroPain) at the Lyon Centre for Neuroscience, and practitioner at the Pain Clinic in Lyon Neurological Hospital. His research interests include the cortical processing of painful sensations, the diagnosis and prediction of neuropathic pain, and the use of cortical neuromodulation for pain relief. Author or co-author of more than 250 publications and 60 didactic articles, he has served as Deputy Director of the Human Biology Department at Claude Bernard University in Lyon (2013-2017), President of the French and European Societies of Clinical Neurophysiology (EC-IFCN, 2010-2015), Editor of the Book “Pain and the Conscious Brain” (IASP–Wolters-Kluver 2016), and Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Pain (2015-2022). His work has received the Ronald Melzack Award from the IASP, the Neuroscience and Pain research Prizes from the Institut de France, the Erik Stälberg Prize from the IFCN (2023) and the Axel Kahn prize from the Ligue Against Cancer (2023).
